The Format
The Women’s SAILING Champions League is raced in the league format, which brings the structure of club competitions known from other team sports to sailing. At its centre are the clubs, not individual sailors. Each club is represented by a team of its most accomplished sailors.
Racing takes place on short, standardised courses in identical Platu 25 keelboats provided by the organiser. Equal equipment puts the focus entirely on the performance of the crew and the club behind it.
The Women’s League
League sailing began in 2013 with the German Sailing League and led to the founding of the SAILING Champions League in 2014. Today, National Sailing Leagues are raced in 23 nations. In 2018, the Women’s SAILING Champions League was added alongside the Youth SAILING Champions League, bringing the league format to a broader group of sailors and giving women’s club teams their own international stage.
The SAILING Champions League is also represented in Asia Pacific and in the United States through the SAILING Champions League Asia Pacific and the US Sailing League.
