Norddeutscher Regatta Verein completes triple with Youth SAILING Champions League 2025 title

ALTEA, Spain – 9 November 2025. The Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (NRV) has claimed the Youth SAILING Champions League 2025 title in Altea, Spain, capping off an exceptional season. In two thrilling final races, the German team overcame the surprise finalist San Francisco Yacht Club (SFYC) from the United States.

Dramatic battle for the Final Four

The final day in Altea was defined by light wind conditions, demanding tactical skill and intense concentration from all competitors. In the decisive qualifying round, several teams fought hard for a place in the Final Four. With a dramatic victory in the last elimination race, SFYC secured their spot in the final round, narrowly edging out the Norwegian team Åsgårdstrand Seilforening. Joining NRV, SFYC, Segelclub Stäfa (SCS), and Nesodden Seilforening (NSF), they formed a highly competitive and prestigious Final Four line-up.

Decided on the final upwind leg

In the Final Four, NRV needed a win in the decisive race to claim the overall title. The first final race was won by SFYC, setting the stage for a nerve-wracking showdown in the second race. On the final upwind leg, NRV pulled ahead and secured the championship of the Youth SAILING Champions League 2025. The podium was completed by SFYC in second place and SCS in third, marking their third podium finish in Youth SCL history.

NRV reflects on an outstanding season

NRV skipper Mats Schönebeck commented on the victory: “2025 has been an outstanding year for us. After winning the Junior League and the 1st League in the German National League, securing the Youth SCL title is the perfect conclusion to our season. We would like to thank Konzeptwerft Holding GmbH, the team behind the SAILING Champions League, for organizing this great competition.”

Praise for the hospitality of the host club

The sailors expressed their admiration for the hospitality of Club Náutico de Altea. Alvaro Arroyo Benito, Managing Director of CNA, reflected positively on the event: “Hosting the Youth SAILING Champions League was a great challenge, but also a huge honor. It was a pleasure to run this outstanding format with our club and work closely with the SAILING Champions League team to make it a success. We really appreciate the opportunity.”

Looking ahead to 2026

Most of the teams for the next season of the Youth SAILING Champions League 2026 have already been confirmed. Organizers and sailors alike are looking forward to another exciting season filled with high-level competition and international sailing action.
