In two qualifying regattas, German women’s teams can qualify for next year’s Women’s SAILING Champions League. Sailing teams of women from all over Germany compete against each other. The first qualification already took place on 22nd and 23rd of April on the Lake Wannsee in Berlin, the second will be held in Kiel from 12nd to 13rd of August 2023. ISLA supports the German League in its goal to promote women in sailing.
The first qualification was a complete success, with seven women’s teams from all over Germany taking part. The team around skipper Johanna Meier from the Akademischer Segelverein Warnemünde is currently leading the standings, followed by Berliner Yacht-Club around skipper Carla Gerlach in second place and the Norddeutscher Regattaverein with skipper Julia Kühn in third place.
But the other four teams still have a chance to qualify for the Women’s SAILING Champions League 2024. Women’s competitive sailing is growing worldwide and the German national league is determined to promote women in sailing. The qualifying regattas are a great opportunity for teams to showcase their skills and secure their participation in the championship. The German national league is looking forward to the second qualifying regatta in August and excited to see who will qualify for the Women’s SAILING Champions League.
