Helga Cup – what a format, what a regatta! The regatta with the unusual name in the middle of the city of Hamburg in northern Germany exploded from a standing start in 2018 to become the world’s largest women’s regatta. Since then it has established itself as an extremely positive, colourful, active sailing event for every woman in the national and international sailing scene. What’s more, the Helga Cup has presented a ‘groove’ that is unparalleled.
The Helga Cup, initiated by Sven Jürgensen in the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein, makes female sailors’ hearts beat faster and encourages women of all ages, sailing backgrounds and sailing backgrounds to get back in the boat and actively sail. The run on the starting places is unbroken since the creation of the Cup; but there are still available spots for international crews who can register regularly.
The Helga Cup 2020 is under the patronage of Olympic track cycling champion Kristina Vogel and will take place from 11 to 14 June 2020 in the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein in the middle of Hamburg on the Außenalster. In 2020, the cup starts in an extended format. In addition to the three J/70 lanes the cup brings another lane for inclusion women’s sailing onto the course.
As at SAILING Champions League sailing at the Helga Cup will take place on provided J/70s; this means for the teams that they only need their sailing gear and a good mood in their luggage. Everything else is taken care of on site.
