Women SAILING Champions League, Day 1: Lake Wannsee's experienced team takes the lead

Berlin, 28 April 2023 – The Berliner Yachtclub is hosting the Women SAILING Champions League qualifiers this year. From 28 April to 30 April 2023, 21 all-female teams will compete against each other to qualify for the Final in Sundby, Denmark.

The Women SAILING Champions League is an exclusive event in the sailing world and presents the best female sailors from around the world.

For the first time, the Women SAILING Champions League is a series consisting of a qualifier in Berlin and a Final in Sundby, Denmark. Teams from seven nations, including Germany, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Finland, will be competing for a place in the Final.

The first day of the Qualifier saw optimal weather conditions with 8 to 14 knots and sunshine. Good starts were achieved by the German club Württembergischer Yachtclub and the Dutch team WSV Giesbeek.

The German teams had a great and successful day and were able to place several times in the overall ranking. But also the Swedish team around Segelsällskapet Åmålsviken competed with the German team Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee. At the end of the day, the German team was able to use its home advantage to defy the unpredictable Lake Wannsee. The German team Norddeutscher Regatta Verein achieved third place today.

The day ended with flight 7, race 1.
