Members meeting of SAILING Champions League 2015

During the SAILING Champions League event in Porto Cervo in September, the SCL Steering Committee, representatives of the national leagues (Germany, Denmark, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Poland) and a representative of the Royal Malta Yacht Club as a potential organiser of future events met for the annual members’ meeting. The meeting focused on questions about the organisation of the SCL in a “Rule Book”, the licensing of the leagues as well as the qualification for the SCL in the future.

1) SCL events in 2016
– Bid process for clubs/organisers is countenanced
– Three events in 2016

2) SCL qualification system
– Clear system for qualification and allocation for countries without national leagues is needed
– Qualification for SCL finals could be an option in order to raise the sportive level

3) Rule Book as first “sailing league standards”
– National quantity also based on results of SCL events in the past
– Club rule: sailors are not able to start for different countries/national leagues
– National Sailing League License defines qualifiers for the SCL, only licensed leagues according to Rule Book standards have a specific number of qualified clubs for the SCL

4) Election of Steering Committee members
– Peter Wolsing, Danish Sailing League
– Rob Franken, Dutch Sailing League
– Roland Regnemer, Austrian Sailing League
– Ewan McEwan, UK Sailing League (Royal Yachting Association/Royal Thames Yacht Club)
– Edoardo Recchi, Yacht Club Costa Smeralda
– Oliver Schwall, SCL/Konzeptwerft GmbH
