Germany is a pioneer in the regatta sport and invented the idea of league sailing four years ago. Because the concept found so many followers, the format has now been extended to the younger sailors. The “Deutsche Junioren Segel-Liga” was born. Last weekend the kick-off event started successfully. Ten teams with sailors aged between 12 and 21 years had 20 tough races. It was a perfectly organized event which sprayed a lot of emotions and desire among the competitors and spectators.
It’s an individual league for all sailors at the age of 21 or younger. Short and firm races close to the shore, a one design boat class (provide the same conditions for all clubs) also make it exciting for sailors and fans. It offers good prospects for successful and talented sailors which doesn’t want to make a Olympic campaign. The new concept will not compete for the Olympic high-performance sports. It is a league for the next generation. Further information
