After finishing as runner-up in the Italian Sailing League last year, the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano (SVBG) from Trieste went one better to clinch the Championship in 2016. The final in Naples challenged the 18 clubs with stormy winds gusting up to 30 knots.
SVBG demonstrated perfect harmony in handling the Este24 one-design boats, which enabled them to stay ahead of their closest competitors and they finished the event with 8 wins in their 14 races.
In total, 42 races were completed over the weekend from 28 – 30 October. 13 of the 18 participating clubs scored at least 1 race win, which again demonstrates the high level of competition in the National Sailing Leagues after a short period of time.
These 4 Italian clubs will participate in either Act 1 or Act 2 of the Champions League 2017:
- Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, Triest
- Club Canottieri Roggero di Lauria, Palermo
- Circolo Canottieri Aniene, Rome
- Circolo Velico Ravennate, Ravenna
