One of the main features of National Sailing Leagues is the live coverage during the events for fans and spectators. Nine countries cooperate with software company SAP as technology partner and use the SAP Sailing Analytics to bring the sailing action ashore. To guarantee smooth operation, live broadcasting company SailTracks who provides tracking service to each sailing league hosted a three-day training in February in Hamburg, Germany, to train the national operators.
All tracking operators from Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Norway, Poland and Austria joined the training and brought a “spare operator” with them. Also, two potential operators from Spain flew to Hamburg – even though Spain hasn’t established a sailing league yet. One of the operators was a 15 years old girl, so the future can come.
The training was hosted by SailTracks together with SAP and the Danish tracking company TracTrac. The objectives of the workshop were to train the operators to track all sailing league events even more successful and professional and to provide the best possible tracking data for SAP Sailing Analytics.
All operators got extensive insight in smartphone tracking with practical exercise, the handling of the equipment (wind bots, GPS tracker) and got to know the upcoming e-learning platform invented for them to constantly update their knowledge.
Jan Hamann, project manager from SailTracks, is very happy with the results: “It was a great training session with theoretical and practical exercise. Now, we have a uniform standard we can build on. The e-learning platform shall create a worldwide community to support each other by exchanging experiences and knowledge for planning events.”
Axel Uhl, chief architect SAP Sailing Analytics, added: “The e-learning platform is still in the development stage but already showed its future potential. It was great to welcome new faces besides the experienced league operators.”
